The diocese of Fort Portal ( lat. : Diocesis Arcis Portal ) is an in Uganda situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Fort Portal .

history

The diocese Fort Portal was on February 21, 1961 by Pope John XXIII. formed from parts of the Archdiocese of Mbarara. Vincent Joseph McCauley was the first bishop.

On August 9, 1965 and March 6, 1989 the territory of the diocese was changed and parts of the area with Hoima and Kasese were redistributed.

It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Mbarara as a suffragan .
