The Archdiocese of Mbarara ( Latin : Archidioecesis Mbararaensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Mbarara in southwest Uganda .

On May 28, 1934, the Apostolic Vicariate Ruwenzori was founded from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Uganda and on March 25, 1953 raised to the diocese of Mbarara, which was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Rubaga as a suffragan diocese. On February 21, 1961, the new diocese Fort Portal was formed from part of the diocese of Mbarara. On February 1, 1966, the Kabale diocese was also separated.
