Paul K. Bakyenga

Paul Kamuza Bakyenga (born June 30, 1944 in Bumbaire-Igara ) is a Ugandan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Mbarara .

Life

Paul K. Bakyenga was ordained a priest for the diocese of Mbarara on July 11, 1971 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Mbarara on March 6, 1989 . The Bishop of Mbarara, John Baptist Kakubi , ordained him episcopal on June 24 of the same year . Co- consecrators were Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu , Bishop of Masaka , and Serapio Bwemi Magambo , Bishop of Fort Portal .

With the resignation of John Baptist Kakubi, he succeeded him on November 23, 1991 as Bishop of Mbarara. With the elevation to the archbishopric on January 2, 1999 he was appointed Archbishop of Mbarara.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 25, 2020.
