Paul Lokiru Kalanda
Paul Lokiru Kalanda (born February 24, 1927 in Buwunde , † August 19, 2015 in Masaka ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Fort Portal in Uganda .
Life
Paul lokiru kalanda visited 1942 the Minor Seminary Bukalasa Minor Seminary , where he also Emmanuel Wamala met. With the help of a scholarship from Propaganda Fide , he was able to study theology and philosophy at the Katigondo Major Seminary , and later at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957 . He graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in African Social Anthropology . He received his doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University . He was the first native principal of the Katigondo Major Seminary .
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Moroto on November 29, 1980 . The Archbishop of Kampala , Emmanuel Kiwanuka Cardinal Nsubuga , donated him episcopal ordination on March 22 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu , Bishop of Masaka , and Sisto Mazzoldi MCCJ , Bishop Emeritus of Moroto.
On June 17, 1991, he was appointed Bishop of Fort Portal . On March 18, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. From December to July 2005 he was Apostolic Administrator of the Lira Diocese .
Kalanda spoke his mother tongue , Luganda and Kiswahili , Runyoro -Rutooro (Nyoro), Karamojong , Latin , English , French and Italian .
