Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo

Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo (born November 30, 1936 in Villa-Maria , † December 11, 2019 in Kampala ) was a Ugandan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Moroto .

Life

Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo studied philosophy and theology at the Katigondo advanced seminar and at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . He completed postgraduate studies in philosophy, theology and law in Switzerland and Germany. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Masaka on December 21, 1963 .

He worked in various functions in the Masaka diocese, including as private secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio in Uganda. From 1976 to 1980 he was rector of the Bukalasa seminary. Ssentongo was Secretary General of the Ugandan Bishops' Conference from 1981 to 1988.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Masaka and titular bishop of Pupiana on December 15, 1988 . The Bishop of Masaka, Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu , consecrated him on March 18 the next year; Co- consecrators were Emmanuel Wamala , Archbishop of Kampala , and Paul Lokiru Kalanda , Bishop of Moroto.

On March 30, 1992, he was named Bishop of Moroto . Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 20, 2014.
