Jens Scheffler

Jens Scheffler (born January 11, 1960 in Zschopau ) is a German enduro athlete . In his career he won the European title a four times and in 1987 the international six-day race in Jelenia Góra, Poland, with the German trophy team .

Athletic career

Jens Scheffler started actively doing enduro sports at the age of 15. In his first season he came third in the GDR best determination in the 175 cm³ ID class. After completing his apprenticeship as a construction worker, he switched to the sports department of the Zschopau motorcycle factory in 1978 . In the same year he was already a member of the second-placed trophy team at the Six Days in Värnamo, Sweden . In 1979 he reached fourth places at the GDR and European championships with a 350 cm³ MZ. He was also fourth with the team in the six-day race. From 1980 he drove a 500 cc MZ. In his first year in the new class, he became vice European champion. In 1981 he won his first European title. In 1982 he was second in the championship, but was able to win the title three times in a row between 1983 and 1985. In 1986 he was second again and in 1987 and 1988 third respectively. In 1987 he won the international six-day race in Jelenia Góra, Poland, with the German trophy team . In 1989 he won his only GDR championship title . In 1990 Scheffler switched to Suzuki and became German champion in the up to 400 cc four-stroke class. In 1991 he was runner-up. Scheffler then moved to Switzerland and was Swiss runner-up in 1995 and 1996 in the class up to 125 cm³.

Since 1990 he has been a driver instructor at Dany Wirz's enduro school . After obtaining his coaching license from the German Sports Association, he has been running his own enduro school in Zschopau since 2001.

Remarks

aUntil 1989, the European Championship was the highest quality individual competition in enduro sport and was only replaced by the Enduro World Championship from 1990 .
