Juha Salminen (2011)

Juha Salminen (born September 27, 1976 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish enduro athlete . He is eight-time class world champion , five-time overall world champion and was a member of the victorious trophy team at the international six-day race five times .

Athletic career

His first sporting success was winning the Finnish junior championship in trials . Three years later he became the national junior enduro champion. In the same year he was part of the victorious junior team in the international six-day race . The following year he was part of the trophy team, which drove to second place. In 1998 he was accepted into the KTM factory team. In the same year he was third in the world championship in the two-stroke class up to 125 cm³ and was a member of the trophy team that won the Six Days in Traralgon (Australia). The following year he became world champion in the class up to 125 cm³. He was able to successfully defend this title in 2000 and was also world champion of all classes. In 2001 he drove in the class up to 250 cc two-stroke, where he also won the world title and defended his overall world title. This he succeeded in the following year when he drove in the class up to 400 cm³ four-stroke. This year the Finnish team also managed to win another trophy at the Six Days. He also became a Finnish motocross champion. In 2003 and 2004 the enduro successes were repeated. In 2003 Salminen drove in the 500 cm³ four-stroke class and in 2004 in the newly created E2 class (up to 250 cm³ two-stroke / 450 cm³ four-stroke). The following year he was looking for a new challenge. He moved to America and competed in the Grand National Cross Country series, which he won in 2005 and 2006. He was the first non-American to receive the AMA award for his success . In 2006 was again a member of the victorious trophy team at the Six Days. For 2007 he moved back to Europe and became world champion in class E1 (up to 125 cm³ two-stroke / 250 cm³ four-stroke). In 2008 he moved to class E2 and finished second behind Johnny Aubert . For the 2009 season he switched to BMW. In 2011 he became world champion in the E1 class on the Husqvarna belonging to the BMW group . With the Finnish national team, he won the trophy at the international six-day race in Kotka-Hamina .
