The SV Weser 08 Bremen (officially: Sportverein Weser von 1908 eV ) was a sports club from Bremen . The first soccer team reached the German championship of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB) in 1926 and 1927 and the German championship of the Kampfgemeinschaft für Rote Sporteinheit ( Red Sport ) in 1932 .

history

The club was founded in 1908 and emerged from a street team called Union . The first venue was a meadow next to the AG Weser . Three years later the team became champions of Bremen and later joined the ATSB. In 1924, the Bremen-based company made headlines for a trip to the Soviet Union at a time when the management of the ATSB was in violent disputes with the Red Sports International, which was supported by the Soviet Union . Despite a ban by the ATSB, the people of Bremen started the trip and were banned for six weeks after their return. In 1926, the Bremen team reached the final of the Northwest German Championship of the ATSB and lost against FSV Laer from Bochum in Cologne with 1: 2. A year later , the Bremen team failed at Lorbeer 06 Hamburg . Also in 1927 there was the so-called Russian Games when a Moscow team ran up against SV Weser.

In 1930 the association split up. The background was a friendly game against the reigning ATSB champions TSV Nürnberg-Ost agreed by local rivals SV Sperber Bremen . The Nuremberg team canceled their participation a short time later due to scheduling problems, whereupon SV Weser announced a friendly against the Franks. The Bremen ATSB management asked to see the correspondence between the two clubs, but the Weser board refused. The more communist- oriented SV Weser was then excluded from the social democratic ATSB. The club split up. While SV Weser 08 joined the combat community for red sports unit, a minority founded SV Weser 30 Bremen , which was newly admitted to the ATSB. The SV Weser 08 reached the finals of the German Red Sports Championship in 1932. After a victory over Teutonia Hamburg , Bremen failed in the semi-finals at BV Gelsenkirchen . A year later, the National Socialists took power in Germany and both clubs were banned. The members then joined the Eintracht Bremen association .

In 1945 the SG Bremen-West was founded as the collective successor of SV Weser 08, SV Weser 30, TV der western suburb , Bremer SV , ATV Frisch Auf Bremen , Boxfreunde Bremen and the Free Chess Association Bremen . After a short time, Bremer SV left the syndicate again, while the rest of them took on the name SV Weser 08 Bremen again. This developed into a popular sports club and the footballers did not get beyond the lower divisions. In 1968 the club was the first in Bremen to provide two female soccer referees . On October 14, 2015, SV Weser 08 joined the Bremer SV.
