Henry Debosnys

Henry D. Debosnys (born in Portugal in 1836 ; died April 28, 1883 in Essex County , New York ) was an American convicted of murder and executed .

Debosnys said he was of French origin and came from Portugal . He came by ship to Essex , New York, from Philadelphia in the spring of 1882 . There he met the widow Elizabeth Wells, whom he married after several weeks. Two months later, his wife was found dead with two gunshot wounds and her throat cut. He was charged with murder, which he denied. His name is not real, but he does not want to reveal his real name. It was the third marriage. His first wife drowned and his second wife died of malnutrition. Debosnys was executed by hanging in 1883. His bones were used for anatomical purposes in a school; his skull is still preserved today. Debosnys spoke Latin and Greek, among others. Several documents have come down to us from Debosny which contain encrypted messages. The pictograms have not yet been deciphered.
