Location of the municipality of Schiffweiler in the Neunkirchen district | ||
Schiffweiler ( local dialect Schiffwiller , ) is a municipality in the Saarland in the district of Neunkirchen , about 20 km northeast of Saarbrücken .
, in thehistory
Schiffweiler, which was first mentioned in a document in 893, was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and was not settled again until 1664.
Documentary mentions prove the extraction of hard coal from 1430 and a first hard coal mine as early as 1766.
The change to an industrial location took place in the middle of the 19th century when the large coal mines Reden (1847) and Itzenplitz (1856) were built. Mining dominated everyday life in the community for around 150 years , and it flourished quickly. But there were also downsides. The mining industry repeatedly caused considerable damage to the mountains ; Houses often fell victim to dismantling shortly after completion and had to be renovated or demolished . With the closure of the Reden mine in 1995, an era came to an end in Schiffweiler .
During the League of Nations -Mandats over the Saar region existed (1920-1935) in Heiligenwald and in Schiffweiler Domanialschulen .
Incorporations
After the incorporation of Heiligenwald, Landsweiler-Reden and Stennweiler, the municipality of Schiffweiler has been made up of the districts of Schiffweiler, Heiligenwald, Landsweiler-Reden and Stennweiler since the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , which came into force on January 1, 1974. An area of the municipality of Illingen with more than 150 inhabitants at that time came to Schiffweiler .

Coat of arms of the municipality
The coat of arms was approved on July 26, 1976 by the Saarland Ministry of the Interior.
Blazon : "In blue a golden lily reel , covered with a silver cap piece , which is covered with a green linden leaf , a floating green bar cross and a black mallet and a black iron in an oblique intersection."
The colors of the parish are blue - white.
The current coat of arms of the community, which was newly formed by the community reform in 1974 from four earlier communities with coats of arms, wants to document this merger by accumulating the symbols of the earlier community coats of arms. The lily reel was taken from the earlier coats of arms of Schiffweiler and Landsweiler-Reden, mallets and iron from that of Landsweiler-Reden and Heiligenwald, the cross from that of Heiligenwald and the linden leaf from that of Stennweiler. The Göpelstück has also been added as a - double - symbol of mining, symbolizing a mine.
The coat of arms was designed by Alois M. Peter.
Coat of arms of the district
The coat of arms was approved on July 10, 1953 by the Saarland Ministry of the Interior.
Blazon : "An eight-spoke golden Glevenrad in black."
On the black shield, which symbolizes mining, is the golden Gleven wheel of the Knights of Greiffenclau, who came from the Rheingau and who renounced their iron forges and coal mines in the area of Schiffweiler in 1430 in favor of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken, but until 1599 Had properties there themselves.
The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Kurt Hoppstädter .
