Center for Biodocumentation
The Center for Biodocumentation (ZfB-Referat D / 6) in the Ministry for Environment and Consumer Protection of the Saarland is based in Landsweiler-Reden, a district of the municipality of Schiffweiler . Its task is the documentation and conservation of the fauna and flora of the Saarland .
Emergence
The University of the Saarland since the restructuring in 1998 does not provide programs to biogeography more so that the collections for this focus homeless were. One part was relocated to the new location in Trier , one part, together with other collections, forms the basis of the Center for Biodocumentation as a permanent loan .
The Delattinia association , which is also based in the ZfB today, advocated the use of the former mine site in Landsweiler-Reden . Industriekultur Saar GmbH (IKS), which also looks after the Völklinger Hütte and Göttelborn locations , planned not only an appropriate presentation of the ZfB's collections, but also a primeval world adventure park on the former industrial site.
Collections
The ZfB houses the following collections:
- Zoological collections (marine fauna, amphibians and reptiles, birds, mammals and insects, especially butterflies)
- Geoscientific collections (geology, mineralogy, petrography and paleontology)
- The collection of the former Geological Museum in Saarbrücken
- The herbarium of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation
activities
The ZfB also sees itself as a contact and service point for all volunteer naturalists, authorities and planners as well as a modern information center. The institution takes care of the species registration of the native butterflies, restores and preserves the preserved permanent loans.
