The FSG Schiffweiler (officially: Fußballportgemeinschaft 1908 Schiffweiler eV ) is a football club from Schiffweiler in the Neunkirchen district . The first soccer team played for nine years in the then third or fourth class Oberliga Südwest .

history

The club goes back to the FC Falke Schiffweiler , which was founded in 1908 and which was renamed VfR 08 Schiffweiler in 1920 . The DJK Schiffweiler was also founded in 1908 and merged with the VfR to form SpVgg 08/34 Schiffweiler in 1934 . With the end of the Second World War, the SpVgg was dissolved. On April 27, 1946, VfR 08 Schiffweiler was re-established, which in 1949, like all other local gymnastics and sports clubs, was incorporated into SV Schiffweiler . Just two years later, the VfR 08 became independent again. In 1956, the DJK Schiffweiler split from the VfR. In 1979 the VfR and the DJK formed a syndicate that was converted into FSG Schiffweiler on May 29, 1980.

After the FSG was promoted to the regional league in 1982, the march into the regional league succeeded a year later. In 1987 he was promoted to the Saarland Association League, which was followed two years later by promotion to the then third-class Oberliga Südwest. The team became champions due to the better goal difference compared to Saar 05 Saarbrücken . After two years in the league, he was relegated to the Association League in 1991. With exactly 100 goals scored, they were immediately promoted again. In the following years, the team in the major league oscillated between mediocrity and relegation battle. The highlights were an 8-0 win against Südwest Ludwigshafen and eighth place in the 1996/97 season .

In 1999 the FSG was relegated from the league and, curiously enough, Eduard Kacai was the top scorer of the season. The low point of the season was an 8-0 defeat against the second team of 1. FC Saarbrücken . For financial reasons, the board of directors refrained from going back to the big league in the wake of the affair involving Dieter Bux , who played 29 times for TuS Montabaur without playing authorization. A year later, the club withdrew its team because of the ongoing financial problems the team in the district league B. After three promotions within six years, the FSG returned to the state league in 2006 and qualified three years later with a play-off win for the newly created Saar Association League , which is the second highest division in Saarland. Since the 2015/16 season, the club has formed a syndicate with the neighboring FC 08 Landsweiler-Reden in the men's area . The two teams compete under the name SG 08 Schiffweiler / Landsweiler-Reden .
