Kurt Hoppstädter

Kurt Friedrich Hoppstädter (born December 6, 1905 in Wiebelskirchen , † May 14, 1970 in Fürth in the Ostertal ) was a German local researcher and heraldist .

Hoppstädter was born as the son of the locomotive driver Friedrich Hoppstädter and Wilhelmine Volz. After elementary school he attended the preparatory institute in Ottweiler until 1924 and in 1925 joined the railroad of what was then Saarland as a civilian supernumerar . After working for several years in various departments, he passed the first-class specialist examination in 1929. From 1929 to 1931 he was in charge of the customs office at the Merzig freight station , in order to then take over the freight tariff control of the Saarbrücken administrative district . In 1969 he retired with the rank of Federal Railway Chief Official.

In addition to his professional activity, from 1932 on he published numerous works on topics relating to the history of the country, settlement and transport. He also made a large number of contributions to heraldic research in Saarland and designed the coats of arms for eighty Saarland districts, offices and communities.

From 1941 to 1960 he was a member of the Herold and from 1955 to 1970 managing director of the historical association for the Saar area . He was also a member of the Commission for Saarland State History and Folk Research , the Institute for Regional Studies in Saarland and the International Institute for Castle Research .
