Philip Welker

Philip Welker (born November 13, 1989 in Ottweiler ) is a former German badminton player . He plays for 1. BC Bischmisheim .

Career

Philip Welker began his badminton career at the age of five with SSV Heiligenwald. There his badminton talent was recognized and promoted early on. At the age of 8, he took part in ranking tournaments. Since then, championship titles at the Saarland, Southwest German and German level have been on his track record.

Trainers and supervisors at the German level also became aware of Welker early on. At the age of 12 he was already part of the Germany talent team. Since then Welker has played many national and international tournaments with success. With the national team he also had several appearances in various international matches.

The change to the Bundesliga club BC Bischmisheim took place in 2005. The excellent training conditions at the Saarbrücken Olympic base and the new club brought another enormous improvement to Welker's badminton game. His school education was also entirely geared towards badminton: Welker was a student at the Gymnasium am Rotenbühl , an elite sports school .

In March 2007, national coach Holger Hasse was nominated for the 2007 European Badminton Championship. Since March 2007, Welker has had a new coach, Dede Dewanto.

In October 2007 the Badminton Youth World Championships took place in Waitakere, New Zealand. Welker started here with the team and individually. Due to mistakes by the organizers regarding performance differentiation, the German team reached the 24th place in the final result. In mixed, Welker and his partner Fabienne Deprez achieved a place in the top ten in the world. With a victory over the Indonesian team, 9th place was fought.

Since 2008, Welker has been playing exclusively with adults when the age limit was reached. His first appearance in the 1st Bundesliga for 1st BC Bischmisheim was in November 2009 against Union Lüdinghausen. In the 2009/10 season he won the German championship with the team. The season was then crowned by winning the European Cup .

After graduating from high school, he began studying business administration at Saarland University in autumn 2010 .

In the 2011/2012 season, the Saarland player played for 1. BC Düren . With this Welker was the season winner in the 2nd Bundesliga North. From the 2012/2013 season he will play again for 1. BC Bischmisheim . After the meniscus was repeatedly torn off, Philip Welker put his badminton career on hold from summer 2013.
