The Gauliga Göltzschtal (also 1st class Göltzschtal ) was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was created in 1912 as a spin-off of the Gauliga Vogtland and existed until it was re-affiliated to the Gau Vogtland in 1930. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .
overview
The Gau Göltzschtal emerged as a split from the Gau Vogtland. The 1st district assembly took place on August 8, 1912 in Auerbach . The top division started with six participating teams. Unlike in other Gauligen, gaming in Gau Göltzschtal was suspended at the beginning of the First World War .
In the course of the game class reform of the VMBV in 1919, the Gauliga Göltzschtal was only second class. With the district league Westsachsen a new top division was created, which in addition to the Gau Göltzschtal also included the Gaue Vogtland and Westsachsen. This district league was dominated by the Plauen clubs, but SpVgg Falkenstein , VfB 1907 Reichenbach and VfB Auerbach from Gau Göltzschtal could at least partially play first class. The district leagues were abolished again in the 1923/24 season , from then on the Gauliga Göltzschtal was again first class. The number of participants grew from four to six teams in the 1924/25 season and reached its peak from the 1928/29 season with eight clubs. For the 1930/31 season , the Gauliga Göltzschtal was dissolved and assigned to the Gauliga Vogtland as the Göltzschtal squadron. This classification existed until the VMBV was dissolved in 1933.
The Gauliga Göltzschtal was dominated by the Falkensteiner clubs. The two championships played before the First World War were secured by Falkensteiner FC and Falkensteiner BV . These two clubs merged in 1919 to form SpVgg Falkenstein , which dominated the Gauliga in the 1920s. Only in the 1925/26 season was 1. FC Reichenbach able to break through the Falkensteiner phalanx.
classification
The excessive number of first-class Gauligen within the VMBV had caused a dilution of the game level, there were sometimes double-digit results in the Central German football finals. The clubs from the Gauliga Göltzschtal were among the weaker clubs in the association. In the 1924/25 season , the SpVgg Falkenstein was able to survive the first round in the Central German football final, but a clear 0:16 defeat against VfB Leipzig followed in the second round . At the end of the 1920s, the Göltzschtaler Gaumeister could regularly survive the first round, in 1926/27 the 1. SV Jena was surprisingly beaten. In 1927/28 there was an 11-1 victory in the first round against FC Preußen Biehla . In 1928/29 Falkenstein failed in the second round with 1: 2 after extra time only narrowly against defending champions FC Wacker Halle .
After being accepted into the Gauliga Vogtland, the clubs from the former Gau Göltzschtal could hold their own, the SpVgg Falkenstein became Gaumeister Vogtland in 1933. Falkenstein was also taken into account for the Gauliga Sachsen , introduced in 1933 , but rose to the second division after one season.
