The district league of West Saxony was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1919 as part of a division reform on the part of the VMBV and existed until 1923. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German football championship .
overview
In 1919, the VMBV decided to introduce so-called Kreisligen over the existing Gauligen as the first game classes, which included several Gaue. Previously, the number of first-class leagues had already risen to over 20 in some cases, which caused the level of play in the Central German soccer finals to be diluted. The district league West Saxony included the Gaue Göltzschtal , West Saxony and Vogtland and was initially held with eight teams. The league was then gradually increased to ten participants. In the 1922/23 season there were two seasons with seven teams each, the season winners played the district champions in a final. For the 1923/24 season, the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the numerous Gauligen again formed the first divisions within VMBVs.
The district league West Saxony was dominated by SV Konkordia Plauen , which was able to secure all four played district championships. In the Central German football finals, however, the club had no chance against the strong clubs from Leipzig, Dresden and Halle.
