The North West Saxony District League was one of the top soccer leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1919 as part of a division reform by the VMBV and existed until 1923. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German football championship .
overview
In 1919, the VMBV decided to introduce so-called Kreisligen over the existing Gauligen as the first game classes, which included several Gaue. Previously, the number of first-class leagues had already risen to over 20 in some cases, which caused the level of play in the Central German soccer finals to be diluted. The district league North West Saxony included the Gaue Elbe-Elster and North West Saxony and was initially played with ten participants. In the 1923/24 season, the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the numerous Gauligen again formed the first divisions within VMBVs, whereby the former Gauliga Mittelachsen was henceforth named Gauliga Nordsachsen and the Gauliga Südwestsachsen was named Gauliga Mittelachsen .
The district league North West Saxony was dominated by the Leipzig clubs from the Gau North West Saxony, not a single club from the Gau Elbe-Elster, which is also part of the district, could reach the top division. Gauseriensieger VfB Leipzig also dominated the district championship and won the title twice. SpVgg 1899 Leipzig-Lindenau , which was already successful in the Gauliga , was also able to win the district championship twice. As in the Gauliga times, the clubs from northwest Saxony were among the dominating clubs in the VMBV during the district league. In 1919/20 and 1921/22 the district champion of Northwest Saxony was also Central German soccer champion and thus qualified for the German soccer championship . In the other two seasons during the district league existence, the respective district champions of North West Saxony were Central German runners-up.
