The district league East Saxony was one of the top soccer leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1919 as part of a division reform by the VMBV and existed until 1923. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German football championship .
overview
In 1919, the VMBV decided to introduce so-called Kreisligen over the existing Gauligen as the first game classes, which included several Gaue. Previously, the number of first-class leagues had already risen to over 20 in some cases, which caused the level of play in the Central German soccer finals to be diluted. The district league East Saxony included the Gaue Oberlausitz and East Saxony and was carried out with eight teams. For the 1923/24 season, the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the numerous Gauligen again formed the first divisions within VMBVs.
The district league East Saxony was dominated by the Dresden clubs from the Gau Ostsachsen, not a single club from the Gau Oberlausitz, which is also part of the district, could reach the top division. The Dresden Football Ring 1902 was able to secure the district championship twice. Dresdner SV 06 and Guts Muts Dresden each came once for championship honors . Gauseriensieger Dresdner SC, however, could not secure the district championship in the four years of existence of this LIga. As in the Gauliga times, the clubs from East Saxony were among the strongest clubs in the VMBV during the district league. While the Dresdner SV was still bottom of the table in the central German soccer finals in 1919/20 , the Dresdner Fußballring achieved third place in each of the next two seasons. In 1922/23 Guts Muts Dresden secured the Central German soccer championship for the first time in the final over VfB Leipzig and thus qualified for the German soccer championship .
