The Gauliga Thuringia (also 1st class Thuringia ) was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was founded in 1905 and existed until it was divided into the regionally smaller Gauligen North Thuringia and East Thuringia in 1909. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .
overview
On the 10th Association Day of the VMBV on February 4, 1905, the final admission of further associations, including the Association of Thuringian Football Clubs , to the VMBV was decided. The Thuringian Association played the 1904/05 season to the end and was incorporated into the newly created Gau Thuringia of the VMBV from the following season. Initially, however, the Gauliga only had the status of a lower class league, so that the league winner did not qualify for the Central German football final. It was not until the 1907/08 season that the district of Thuringia received the status of 1st class, from then on the Thuringian district master took part in the Central German football final.
The league was divided into three districts in the 1908/09 season with the addition of new clubs and to avoid costs due to journeys, etc. The respective district winners then played the gaumeister in the knockout system. In 1909 the area was finally divided and the Gauliga Nordthüringen and the Gauliga Ostthüringen were created . With the district league Thuringia there was again a top soccer league from 1919 over the entire Thuringian association area.
SC Erfurt was able to secure the two championships held as 1st class .
classification
While SC Erfurt failed in the quarter-finals with 2: 6 at Magdeburg FC Viktoria 1896 when it first took part in the Central German football final , Erfurt was able to beat Chemnitzer BC (3: 1) and Dresdner SC (7: 2 ) in 1908/09 after victories in the replay) advance to the final. Erfurt won the final on May 9, 1909, just 5: 4 against Halleschen FC 1896 . As a result, Erfurt qualified for the German soccer championship 1908/09 , in which the club reached the semi-finals.
After the split into the Gauligen North and East Thuringia, the clubs could not win the Central German football championship again.
