The Central Saxony District League was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1919 as part of a division reform by the VMBV and existed until 1923. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German football championship .

overview

In 1919, the VMBV decided to introduce so-called Kreisligen over the existing Gauligen as the first game classes, which included several Gaue. Previously, the number of first-class leagues had already risen to over 20 in some cases, which caused the level of play in the Central German soccer finals to be diluted. The Central Saxony District League included the Gaue Erzgebirge , Central Saxony , Upper Ore Mountains and Southwest Saxony and was played with ten participants. In the 1923/24 season, the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the numerous Gauligen again formed the first divisions within VMBVs, whereby the former Gauliga Mittelachsen was henceforth named Gauliga Nordsachsen and the Gauliga Südwestsachsen was named Gauliga Mittelachsen .

The Central Saxony district league was dominated by the Chemnitz clubs from the Gau Südwestsachsen, which made up all district championships among themselves. No club from the Gauen Erzgebirge and Obererzgebirge made it into this league in the four years. Only Riesaer SV managed to do this from the Central Saxony district . The Chemnitzer BC was able to secure the last two played district championships, before the SC National Chemnitz and the SV Sturm Chemnitz came to championship honors. In the finals, which were held as a round-robin tournament from 1920 to 1922 , only Chemnitz BC was able to play successfully at the top. He was runner-up in Central Germany in the 1921/22 season. In the final round of 1922/23 , which was held as a knockout round , the club was able to reach the semi-finals by beating Concordia Plauen 2-1 .
