The Gauliga Eichsfeld was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1927 and existed until the VMBV was dissolved in 1933. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .
overview
The Eichsfeld district was founded in the 1927/28 season for the Eichsfeld clubs . They previously competed in the Kyffhäuser district , with only FC Brochthausen and FC 1911 Heiligenstadt playing first-class in 1926/27. The first-class Gauliga was initially played with eight participants, followed by an increase to nine clubs for the 1929/30 season , before the top league was played again with eight teams from 1931/32 .
In the course of the Gleichschaltung , the VMBV and consequently also the Gauliga Eichsfeld were dissolved a few months after the National Socialists came to power in 1933. The Eichsfeld was now also separated in terms of football, the clubs from the part of Eichsfeld, which belonged to the province of Hanover , were assigned to the Sportgau Lower Saxony , while the clubs from the Saxon part were assigned to the Sportgau Mitte . No club from Eichsfeld qualified for the newly established first-class Gauligen, instead the clubs were classified in the respective lower divisions.
The Gauliga Eichsfeld was dominated during the entire event by VfL 08 Duderstadt , who won all Gaume championships.
classification
The excessive number of first-class Gauligen within the VMBV had caused a dilution of the game level, there were sometimes double-digit results in the Central German football finals. The clubs from the Gauliga Eichsfeld were among the weakest clubs in the association. Only in 1931/32 was VfL Duderstadt able to survive the first round of the Central German football finals with a surprising 9: 7 win over SC Erfurt , Gaumeister of Northern Thuringia . In all other participations Duderstadt failed already in the first round, in 1928/29 (3:11 against SV Preußen Langensalza ) and 1932/33 (1:13 against SC Erfurt ) there were even double-digit defeats.
The Eichsfeld clubs could not penetrate the Gauligen , which was introduced in 1933 , only FC Brochthausen was in the promotion round to the Gauliga Lower Saxony 1937/38 .
