The Saale district league was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1919 as part of a division reform on the part of the VMBV and existed until 1923. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German football championship .
overview
In 1919, the VMBV decided to introduce so-called Kreisligen over the existing Gauligen as the first game classes, which included several Gaue. Previously, the number of first-class leagues had already risen to over 20 in some cases, which caused the level of play in the Central German soccer finals to be diluted. The district league Saale included the Gaue Saale and Saale-Elster and was initially played with seven teams. For the 1923/24 season, the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the numerous Gauligen again formed the first divisions within VMBVs.
The Saale district league was dominated by the Halle clubs from the Saale district. The FC Wacker Hall was able to secure the county championship twice. SV Halle 98 and Borussia Halle each came once for championship honors . As in the times of the Gauliga, the clubs from Saale were among the stronger clubs in the VMBV during the district league. Wacker Halle reached the runner-up in 1919/20 . A year later, the club was able to win the Central German soccer finals and thereby qualify for the German soccer championship.
