The Gauliga Elbe-Elster was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was launched in 1911 and existed until it was incorporated into the Gauliga Mulde in 1930. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .

overview

The Gau Elbe / Elster was founded on October 14, 1911, 14 clubs were included, plus Viktoria Wittenberg from the Gau Anhalt . Alemannia Jessen won a competitive round in this area as early as 1909/10 , but at that time the area was not a member of the VMBV. In the first season of 1909/10 only one trial round was played, which Viktoria Wittenberg won. Therefore, no representative from this Gau took part in this year's Central German football final. The second season started with eight teams, but five clubs withdrew during the course of the season. Among other things, the clubs from Jüterbog switched to the Association of Brandenburg Ball Game Clubs . The 1913/14 season was therefore played with only four teams. Unlike in other Gauligen of the VMBV, gaming in Elbe-Elster was completely shut down during the First World War .

In the course of the league reform of the VMBV in 1919, the Gauliga Elbe / Elster was only second class. With the district league North West Saxony , a new top division was created, which included the districts North West Saxony and Elbe-Elster. The level of play in the North West Saxony League was, however, miles higher, so that no club from the Gau Elbe-Elster made it into the first-class district league during this time. In the 1923/24 season , the district leagues were abolished again, from then on the Gauliga Elbe-Elster was again first class. It was enlarged to two seasons, the season winners played the Gaumeister in the final. From 1924/25 there were five participants per season, the two last season played against each other to stay in class. From 1927/28 the Gauliga Elbe-Elster was played again on a single track, first with ten and after a year with eight participants. In the 1930/31 season , the Gauliga was dissolved and assigned to the Gauliga Mulde as the Elbe-Elster squadron . This classification existed until the VMBV was dissolved in 1933.

The Gauliga Elbe-Elster was relatively even, the first three championships played could win three different teams. When the league regained its first class in the 1920s, FC Preußen Biehla became the strongest club. He won four of the seven championships played from 1923.

classification

The excessive number of first-class Gauligen within the VMBV had caused a dilution of the game level, there were sometimes double-digit results in the Central German football finals. The clubs from the Gauliga Elbe-Elster were among the weakest clubs in the association. Not once could the Gaumeister Elbe-Elsters survive the first round of the Central German football finals, in 1913/14 (1:11 against FC Wacker Halle ) and 1927/28 (1:11 against SpVgg Falkenstein ) there were even double-digit defeats.

After being accepted into the Gauliga Mulde, the clubs from Elbe-Elster also had no chance and could not prevail in the Gaume Championships in Mulde against the clubs from the Altmulde relay.

Eternal table

All recorded seasons of the first-class Gauliga Elbe-Elster from 1911 to 1930 including the playoffs for the Gaume Championship between 1923 and 9127 are taken into account. In the 1911/12 season, one game was rated as a defeat for both clubs, so there are more counterpoints than plus points.
