The SC Köthen 09 was a German sports club from the Anhalt city of Koethen . The soccer department won the championship of the Gauliga Anhalt twice and thus qualified for the central German soccer championship .

history

The club was founded in 1909 as SC Cöthen 09 . When the Gauliga Anhalt was founded in the 1909/10 season, the club played first-class within the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). In August 1912 the club joined the TC Cöthen and from then on played under the name Sp.Abt. 09 in the TC Cöthen . In the course of the league reform of the VMBV in 1919, the Gauligen were only second class and were replaced by larger district leagues, the club now renamed SC Cöthen from then on played lower class. It was not until the 1923/24 season that the VMBV abolished the circular leagues and the numerous Gauligen once again acted as the first leagues. From 1927 the city bears the name Köthen . In 1926/27 the club became Gaumeister Anhalt for the first time with a 5 point lead over Dessauer SV 98 . As a result, Köthen qualified for the Central German finals, in which the club, however, was eliminated in the first round after a 1: 2 defeat against the Gaumeister Nordthüringens SC Erfurt . The Gaume championship title was successfully defended in 1927/28 , this time the team prevailed with one point ahead of local rivals Cöthener FC Germania 03 . But also in this season, the SC Köthen was eliminated in the first round of the Central German football final. Against VfL 1911 Bitterfeld , Gaumeister Mulde's sign, it was a 4-0 defeat. The SC Köthen remained in the Gauliga Anhalt until the 1931/32 season before the club was relegated to the 2nd class in the 1932/33 season.

In the course of the conformity, the VMBV and consequently also the Gauliga Anhalt were dissolved a few months after the National Socialists came to power in 1933 and the clubs were classified in the football district Mitte . The SC Köthen failed to participate in the first-class Gauliga Mitte. In 1945 the club was dissolved, a re-establishment was not carried out , as with local rivals SV Köthen 02 .
