The SK Preußen Halberstadt 09 was a football club in the German Empire , which existed from 1909 to 1945. In the 1910s before the First World War , the team was able to qualify several times for the finals for the Central German championship.

history

The club was founded in 1909 under the name FC Preußen 1909 Halberstadt and from the 1909/10 season also took part in the Central German Championship of the VMBV within the Gau Harz , but no standings have been transmitted from this first season. For the next season , the Gau was divided into two seasons. With 10: 2 points, the team was able to finish first in the West district , which means that the team qualified for the Gau final for the starting place in the Central German Championship. This game then took place on February 12, 1911 against FC Askania Aschersleben and could be won 4-0. In the championship finals, however, the team failed 10-0 at SC Erfurt . After the 1911/12 season , the championship was again won with 10: 2 points. In the first round of the championship, the team then failed again at SC Erfurt, but this time with 9: 1.

After the 1912/13 season , the championship was again achieved with 9: 3 points. This time there were two divisions in the final round. Halberstadt was assigned to Division B due to the Gau classified as weak. In the quarterfinals, the team was defeated there on March 9, 1913 3: 5 to SV Cöthen 02 . In the following season , no new championship could be achieved because the team behind Germania Halberstadt could only finish the season in second place. After the outbreak of the First World War, there was no regular game operation in the Gau in the 1914/15 season, in the games played instead, the team did not even start.

After the end of the war, the Harz district was only second class for a long time, which means that the team's further class affiliation is unknown. From the 1923/24 season onwards , the Gau together with the Halberstadt team became first class again. In the following seasons the situation prevailed again and again that the team always pulled the shorter against the neighboring Germania Halberstadt when it came to placing on the table. In 1925 there was also the renaming to the existing name SK Preußen Halberstadt . Season after season more and more places went down in the table, also due to the increasing number of other clubs from Halberstadt.

When the National Socialists came to power, the team was last top notch in the 1932/33 season . Not a single club from the Gau was considered for the later first-class Gauliga. The team played in the wake of the years during the Second World War and was dissolved by 1945 at the latest.
