Fritz Belger

Fritz Belger (born April 19, 1914 in Halle an der Saale ; † October 15, 1983 in Berlin ) was a German football player and coach.

Player career

Belger started playing soccer at Halleschen FC Wacker in 1922 . In 1934 he was able to win the championship in the Gauliga middle with the team and take part in the final round of the German championship . With only one win out of six games, however, they were eliminated after the group games. He was more successful between 1942 and 1945 during his time at Dresdner SC . While the Tschammerpokal in 1943 lost 2-1 in the semifinals against LSV Hamburg , the German championship was won against Hamburg a year later with a 4-0 final victory. Unlike the championship title in 1943 , he played 90 minutes on June 18, 1944 in Berlin.

After the war he returned to his youth club, which had since been renamed SG Freiimfelde Halle . With him he reached the final of the Eastern Zone Championship in 1948 , but lost against the Saxon representative SG Planitz . A year later - renamed again - the ZSG Union Halle has more success. Coaching career

In 1953, Belger became an association coach at the DFV . There he was trainer in the junior and junior division for 13 years. In 1966 he moved to Ceylon , where he looked after the national team for a year before he became coach at FC Vorwärts Berlin in 1967 , with whom he celebrated the championship in 1969 and the cup victory a year later . After that, Belger ended his coaching activity, but took over the task again in the 1972/73 season with the team that had meanwhile been delegated to Frankfurt / Oder.

Others

Belger's son Jürgen played a. a. 30 times in the major league for 1. FC Union Berlin and won the FDGB Cup in 1968 (without being used in the final).
