The Haidbrunn Wacker Wiener Neustadt Railway Sports Club is an Austrian football club from Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria . history

Foundation and promotion to the Gauliga

Wacker Wiener Neustadt was founded in 1919 and wore the club colors black and white . In the early years, the railway sports club played in the lower leagues of its state. The football club celebrated its greatest success by winning the national championship title in the 1937/38 season against city rivals 1. Wiener Neustädter SC and the associated promotion to the Gauliga Ostmark, the highest league for "Austrian" clubs at the time. In order to be allowed to compete in the Gauliga, the Lower Austrians had to change their club name to Reichsbahn Wacker Wiener Neustadt under pressure from the National Socialist rulers . In the Gauliga the Wiener Neustädter finished in their only first division season with only four points from two victories against amateurs Steyr (3: 2) and Grazer SC (3: 1) and a goal difference of 17 to 87 goals scored and the disappointing tenth last place and immediately relegated back to the Niederdonau league .

The team in the Gauliga
looked
like this: Kintera (goal); Scheuer, Theuerweckl (Thaler, E. Stefanitsch); Wurm, Gruber, Wölfl (Schimpl); Zierhofer, Oberleitner, Kovacs, Wograndl, Powaschnigg (Ravnihar, Grügner, Weise, W. Stefanitsch, Havelcik).

After the descent, the Reichsbahn Wacker probably merged with other railway sports clubs to form the Reichsbahn-Spielgemeinschaft Wiener Neustadt . In the 1942/43 season , the RSG Wiener Neustadt reached the final of the state championship after a 5: 1 success over the Reichsbahn-SG Rabensburg and met LSV Markersdorf , who defeated the Luftwaffe SV 3-1 in the semifinals Wiener Neustadt had prevailed. The final game saw its winner in LSV Markersdorf, who was able to move up to the Gauliga Ost, but the exact game result is no longer known today. The RSG Wiener Neustadt had their last appearance in the game year 1943/44 with the second place in the Niederdonau league behind the Badener AC .

Relegation and merger to ESV Haidbrunn Wacker

After the Second World War , the Reichsbahn-SG was dissolved and ESV Wacker was re-established. However, the Wiener Neustädter could no longer establish themselves in the higher leagues and failed, among other things, in the Lower Austrian State Cup in the first round at Ebenfurth in 1947 . At the beginning of the 1960s , ESV Wacker played in the 2nd division South / Southeast, at the beginning of the 1970s only in the 1st class South.

In 1972 the club merged with city rivals ASV 1927 Haidbrunn to form ESV Haidbrunn-Wacker Wiener Neustadt . The club colors were red and white, a combination of the previous club colors of the sub-clubs. In the same year, the fusion club was accepted into the 1st class south, where it could hold up until the 1989/90 season. Due to a syndicate with Lanzenkirchen , the Wiener Neustädter played briefly in 1993 in the 2nd regional league. After the syndicate was dissolved, ESV Haidbrunn-Wacker Wiener Neustadt was continuously relegated.

The merger partner ASV Haidbrunn

The merger partner was founded in 1927 as SV Schmoll Schuhpaste and played its games in the fish colony on Huber Berg . The club colors of the football club, which was renamed the Haidbrunn workers' sports club (district of Wiener Neustadt) shortly afterwards, were red and green at the time. Karl Hartmann senior, Walter Grundtner, Krischke, Kindl, Windisch and Rehberger are still known as founders of the association. As a workers' sports club, Haidbrunn had to stop playing from 1934 to 1938. The second shutdown of gaming operations took place in 1944 due to the events of World War II. In 1946 the club was revitalized again, but it did not play a major role in Lower Austrian football.

Wacker Cup

ESV Haidbrunn Wacker Wiener Neustadt has organized the Wacker Cup for junior teams every year since 2009. The Wacker Cup is one of the largest indoor tournaments for young talent in Lower Austria and every December attracts a large number of teams of different ages to Wiener Neustadt. Since 2018, the Wacker Cup has also been held outdoors in June.
