Günter Kreissl (born May 17, 1974 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian football player .
Career
player
The goalkeeper began his football career at the age of seven at FK Austria Wien . There he went through all the youth teams, was accepted into the extended squad of the professional team at the age of 18 and was used in four test matches. His athletic achievements brought Kreissl three missions in the under-21 national team of the ÖFB between 1994 and 1995 . In addition to his football training, he successfully completed his school education with the Matura in the federal high school .
In order to get match practice, Kreissl was loaned to SV Stockerau ( 2nd division ), SC Himberg ( Lower Austrian regional league) and Bundesliga club FC Admira / Wacker between 1994 and 1996 . On his brief return to Vienna Austria in the summer of 1996, Kreissl came on July 13 for his first appearance in the professional field in a 2-1 defeat in the UEFA Intertoto Cup at FC Copenhagen . Kreissl played his first Bundesliga game on March 8, 1997 for Admira / Wacker in a 1-1 draw against FC Linz .
After his return to Vienna Austria he was an integral part of the professional squad and second goalie behind Wolfgang Knaller , who was in the extended national team, but couldn't get past him. Thus Kreissl came between 1998 and 2000 only to twelve championship games for the "Veilchen". In the summer of 2000 he moved to First Vienna FC 1894 in the First Division and had to relegate with him to the Regionalliga Ost after the season . In the summer of 2002 he was signed by DSV Leoben for the first division. In 2003 he moved to SV Schwechat in the Regionalliga Ost, before ending his active career with the lower class SC Hainfeld .

Trainer
Kreissl was already preparing for his future during his active career. From 2000 to 2002 he trained at the Sports Management Academy of the Austrian Bundesliga and graduated with honors.
He also successfully completed an apprenticeship as a goalkeeper trainer.
He started his coaching job in 2002/03 at DSV Leoben, where he coached goalkeepers in the youth field. In the summer of 2003 he was hired as a goalkeeper coach for the Frank Stronach Academy and for the goalkeepers of Austria's second professional team.
From 2008 to 2012 Kreissl was the goalkeeping coach of SC Wiener Neustadt until he was promoted to sports director (manager for sports and public relations) in November 2012.
After he had also become head coach in summer 2015, he resigned this task in April 2016, as he went to the first division team SK Sturm Graz on May 1, 2016 , where he acted as the sporting director.
After his resignation on April 30, 2020, Andreas Schicker , whom he had already trained with the amateurs of Austria from 2003 and had accompanied over large parts of his career, succeeded Kreissl as managing director of sports at the Austrian Bundesliga club. In order to ensure the best possible handover, Kreissl Schicker will support until June 30, 2020. Kreissl then takes a three-month professional break and is expected to return as technical director of the association on October 5, 2020. During his four-year tenure as sporting managing director, Sturm recorded an extraordinarily positive transfer result, finished third once, as well as once runner-up and also once cup winner.
