history
The traditional club SC Columbia XXI was founded in 1908 in the Jedleseer Gasthaus "Wiedermann". In September of the same year, the club was registered with the club authority and football association. After the end of the First World War , the Columbians were able to purchase their own sports field, which however fell victim to a residential building in 1964, so that the club had to move to Schwarzlackenau . Columbia XXI has played for the VAFÖ championship since 1927, with Red Star , Elektra and Gaswerk among others . After the VAFÖ was dissolved in 1934, the Columbians joined the Vienna Football Association, where they played in the lower leagues. After the annexation of Austria by the German Reich in 1938, games were initially forced to cease until a comfortable management team was set up.
After winning the third class in 1943, Columbia XXI was able to rise to the second division for the first time in its club history, in the middle of World War II . The heyday of the Jedleseer came after the end of the war. In 1946 and 1947 the fourth rank of the second division could be achieved. The departure of the best players from Columbia XXI to larger Viennese clubs, however, has an increasingly negative effect on the championship results. With the introduction of the state league in 1950, the club's forced relegation, which could no longer return to the second division. The Columbians crashed into 1st class B by 1957 and subsequently cavorted in the lowest Viennese football leagues. Only in 1999 succeeded in returning to the fourth-class Vienna City League. The club then fought for several seasons to regain promotion to the city league, Vienna's highest division, which they managed again in 2008. In the same year they also celebrated their 100th anniversary. In 2009, SC Columbia met Arsenal FC in a friendly , which caused a lot of media coverage. In front of around 7,000 spectators, Columbia lost 7-1, but was initially even able to take the lead 1-0. In the 2009/10 season, with a 2-0 away win on the penultimate game day of the Vienna City League at IC Favoriten, they were promoted to the Regionalliga Ost and thus their second promotion within three years.
On July 17, 2010, Columbia played a friendly match against German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in front of around 2,300 spectators . The Floridsdorfer lost 0: 4. The first season in the third-highest division ended the Floridsdorfer in 14th place out of 16. However, the club did not relegate as the eleventh-placed FC Waidhofen / Ybbs voluntarily relegated due to financial problems. In 2012, however, Columbia landed in last place and was relegated to the Vienna City League. After relegation, FC Columbia is currently in the fifth highest league, the 2nd regional league Vienna.
