Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 6056 inhabitants (as of 2010). The geographic coordinates are: 26.19 ° North, 80.10 ° West. The urban area has a size of 3.2 km².

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean , about 45 km north of Miami . The city is bordered by Pompano Beach , Sea Ranch Lakes, and Fort Lauderdale . Florida State Roads A1A and 870 run through the city .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 6,056 inhabitants were distributed among 6,653 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 4658.5 inh / km². 96.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.2% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.9% to several ethnic groups. 8.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 7.2% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 49.1% of all households. 44.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.68 people and the average family size was 2.33 people.
7.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 12.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 51.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 60 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.
The median annual income was $ 58,149, with 8.7% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 88.51% of the population, 5.01% spoke Spanish and 6.48% had another mother tongue.

On May 31, 2001, the offshore shipwreck of the SS Copenhagen was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
