Pembroke Pines is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 154,750 inhabitants (as of 2010). The geographical coordinates are: 26.01 ° North, 80.34 ° West. The urban area has a size of 89.2 km².
geography
Pembroke Pines is located about 15 km southwest of Fort Lauderdale and about 25 km northwest of Miami . The metropolitan area is bordered by the communities of Southwest Ranches , Davie , Cooper City , Hollywood, and Miramar . To the west, the city borders the Everglades .
history
The cornerstone of Pembroke Pine was a ranch that raised dairy cows, like many in the country. In 1943 , rancher Henry D. Perry sold 640 acres to the US Navy to build a military flight school. After the Second World War , the airfield was approved for small private planes. The airfield is still in operation today for small private planes, as well as for a few advertising airships and some US Coast Guard helicopters. Pembroke Pines was incorporated as a city in 1960 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 154,750 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 61,703 households. The population density was 1807.8 inh / km². 67.3% of the population identified themselves as white , 19.8% as African-American , 0.3% as Native American and 4.9% as Asian Americans . 4.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.3% to several ethnic groups. 41.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 37.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.8% of all households. 71.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.70 people and the average family size was 3.21 people.
26.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 46.2% of the population were male and 53.8% were female.
The median annual income was $ 61,873, with 7.4% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, 63.06% of the population spoke English as their first language, 27.91% spoke Spanish and 9.03% spoke another language.

There are currently eight different churches from seven different denominations in Pembroke Pines. Among the churches belonging to one denomination, the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with two churches. (Status: 2004).

Interstate 75 , US Highway 27 and Florida State Roads 25 , 817 , 820 and 823 run through Pembroke Pines . In the far east, the Florida's Turnpike touches the city area. The national North Perry Airport is located in Pembroke Pines . The nearest international airports are Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport .

The crime rate in 2010 was 237 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were four murders, twelve rapes, 92 robberies, 168 physical injuries, 1102 break-ins, 3619 thefts, 305 car thefts and five arson attacks.
