Hillsboro Beach is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 1875 inhabitants (as of 2010). The geographical coordinates are: 26.29 ° North, 80.08 ° West. The urban area has a size of 4.2 km².

Hillsboro Beach is located on the Atlantic Ocean , about 10 km north of Fort Lauderdale and 50 km north of Miami . The city is bordered by the parishes of Deerfield Beach , Lighthouse Point, and Pompano Beach . Florida State Road A1A runs through the city .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1875 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 2224 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 1704.5 inh / km². 97.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.4% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.9% to several ethnic groups. 5.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 3.5% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 66.4% of all households. 50.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.66 and the average family size was 2.14.

3.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 7.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 67.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 67 years. 46.9% of the population were male and 53.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 67,109, with 7.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 89.94% of the population, 4.04% spoke French and 6.02% had another mother tongue.

The crime rate in 2010 was 116 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were two robberies, one assault, six break-ins, 31 thefts and one car theft.
