Tamarac is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 60,427 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has a size of 30.8 km².
geography
Tamarac is located approximately 15 km northwest of Fort Lauderdale and 40 km north of Miami . Clockwise, Tamarac is bordered by Coral Springs , North Lauderdale , Lauderdale Lakes , Lauderhill, and Sunrise . To the west, the city borders the Everglades .
history
In the 17th and 18th centuries , the Native Americans, the Indians from the Abaniki tribe and mainly pirates who were waiting for an opportunity to ambush a Spanish galleon lived here . Back then, many ships were laden with gold and silver when they started their journey home. Often the ships were led by false flares against the cliffs, where the ships stranded and were therefore easy prey. This was made easier by the poor navigation aids that the ships had on board. From time to time it also happened that a hurricane simply washed the ships ashore. Many a family laid the foundation for their later wealth during this time .

According to the 2010 census, the then 60,427 inhabitants were distributed over 32,794 households. The population density was 2048.4 inh / km². 67.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 23.1% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 2.5% as Asian Americans . 4.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 24.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 21.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 44.0% of all households. 56.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.12 people and the average family size was 2.77 people.
18.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 34.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 47 years. 44.6% of the population were male and 55.4% were female.
The median annual income was $ 41,837, with 10.4% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 78.80% of the population, 13.69% spoke Spanish and 7.51% had another mother tongue.

climate
The climate is mild and warm, light with a light wind from the sea. Statistically, it rains an average of 40% of the days in the summer months, even if only for a short time.
