Coconut Creek is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 52,909 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has a size of 30.5 km².

geography

Coconut Creek is located approximately 15 km north of Fort Lauderdale and 45 km north of Miami . Adjacent communities are Parkland , Coral Springs , Margate , Pompano Beach, and Deerfield Beach .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 52,909 inhabitants were distributed over 22,754 households. The population density was 1769.5 inh / km². 75.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 13.7% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 3.8% as Asian Americans . 4.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.0% to several ethnic groups. 20.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 32.6% of all households lived in 29.8% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 59.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.97 people.

23.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40.3 years. 46.6% of the population were male and 53.4% ​​were female.

The median annual income was $ 50,990, with 8.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

English was the first language of 79.23% of the population in 2000, 11.18% spoke Spanish and 9.59% had another mother tongue.

The urban area is crossed or tangent to by the Florida's Turnpike , the US Highway 441 and the Florida State Roads 7 , 810 , 814 , 834 and 869 ( Sawgrass Expressway , toll). The nearest airports are Pompano Beach Airpark (national) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport .

The crime rate in 2012 was 215 points (US average: 301 points) in the average range. There was one murder, ten rapes, 32 robberies, 64 assaults, 270 break-ins, 1265 thefts and 87 car thefts, and four arson attacks.
