Dania Beach is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 29,639 inhabitants (as of 2010). The geographic coordinates are: 26.06 ° North, 80.15 ° West. The urban area has a size of 16.3 km².

Dania Beach is about 20 km north of Miami . Surrounding communities are Davie , Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood .

history

The settlement, originally called Modello , was the first parish in Broward County . Founded in the 1880s, it was given parish status in November 1904. Most of the 35 residents were of Danish descent, so they changed the name of the town to Dania . Since 1999 the community has been called Dania Beach. The wooden roller coaster Dania Beach Hurricane was in operation from 2000 to 2011 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 29,639 inhabitants were distributed over 15,671 households. The population density was 1875.9 inh / km². 69.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 21.8% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 2.1% as Asian Americans . 3.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups.

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 25.2% of all households and people aged 65 and over in 25.8% of all households. 56.2% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.28 people and the average family size was 2.92 people.

20.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 44,608, with 16.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

On May 28, 1999, the Nyberg-Swanson House was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .

Dania Beach is crossed or tangent to Interstates 95 and 595 , US Highways 1 and 441 and Florida State Roads A1A , 5 , 7 , 84 , 818 , 822 and 848 . Directly to the north, the city borders the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport . The Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport Station , which is served by the Tri-Rail on the route from Miami to Mangonia Park , is also located in the urban area .
