Pembroke Park is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 6102 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Pembroke Park is 25 ° 59'4 "north latitude and 80 ° 10'38" west longitude. The city is located on the east coast of Florida, about five kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean . The major cities of Fort Lauderdale and Miami are 15 kilometers to the north and 20 kilometers to the south, respectively. Nearby are Miramar to the west, Miami-Dade County to the south, Hallandale Beach to the east, and Hollywood to the northeast. The Fort Lauderdale Airport is located at a distance of 10 kilometers to the north. In the east, the city is affected by Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike runs a short distance to the west. Florida State Road 858 also runs through the city.

history

The city got its name due to its location on Pembroke Road and was founded on December 12, 1957. A large part of the population lives in mobile homes . There are also spaces for caravans .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,102 inhabitants were distributed among 3,695 households. The population density was 1326.5 inh / km². 37.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 55.3% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 2.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.1% to several ethnic groups. 18.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 36.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 27.2% of all households. 65.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.42 people and the average family size was 2.88 people.

27.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 29.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 20.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 46.8% of the population were male and 53.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 30,569, with 21.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 73.87% of the population, 11.49% spoke Spanish and 14.64% spoke another language.

The crime rate in 2010 was 237 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were four murders, twelve rapes, 92 robberies, 168 physical injuries, 1102 break-ins, 3619 thefts, 305 car thefts and five arson attacks.
