West Park is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 14,156 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
West Park is a good 15 km north of Miami and borders Pembroke Park to the east, Hollywood to the north and Miramar to the west . In the south, the city borders on Miami-Dade County . The urban area is crossed and tangent to US Highway 441 and Florida State Roads 7 and 858 . In the west, Florida's Turnpike and in the east, Interstate 95, each pass in a north-south direction near the city.
history
The city was founded on March 1, 2005, making it the 31st and youngest municipality in Broward County . It was formed from the former census-designated places Lake Forest, Carver Ranches, Miami Gardens and Utopia. According to the 2000 census, these had a total of 4994, 4299, 2706 and 714 inhabitants.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 14,156 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,711 households. The population density was 3011.9 inh / km². 32.8% of the population identified themselves as white , 57.9% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 4.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.3% to several ethnic groups. 28.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 44.0% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 26.1% of all households. 77.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.26 people and the average family size was 3.65 people.
30.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 14.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 48.1% of the population were male and 51.9% were female.
The median annual income was $ 43,071, with 15.0% of the population living below the poverty line.
