Patryk Dobek (born February 13, 1994 in Kościerzyna ) is a Polish hurdler who specializes in the 400 meter distance .

Athletic career

Patryk Dobek gained his first international experience in 2011 when he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run in 46.67 s at the World Youth Championships near Lille and took fourth place with the Polish sprint relay (1000 meters) in 1: 52.42 minutes occupied. The following year he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , in which he was eliminated with 46.56 s. He also won the silver medal with the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay with a new U20 national record of 3: 05.05 min. He was also successful at the 2013 Junior European Championships in Rieti , where he won the silver medal in the individual competition in 46.15 s, as well as with the relay in 3: 05.07 min. In 2014 he took part with the relay at the indoor world championships in Sopot , home, but was eliminated there with 3: 06.50 minutes in advance. Dobek increasingly focused on the hurdles and qualified in the same year for the European Championships in Zurich , where he was eliminated with 49.13 s in the semifinals.

In 2015 he won the U23 European Championships in Tallinn in 48.84 s in the hurdles and won the silver medal in the relay in 3: 05.35 min. He also took part for the first time in the World Championships in Beijing , where he immediately reached the finals and there came seventh in 49.14 s. The following year he qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which, however, he was eliminated with 50.66 s in the run . In 2017 he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 49.40 s before he finished fifth at the Summer Universiade in Taipei in 49.51 s. In 2018 he reached the final at the European Championships in Berlin , where he finished fifth in 48.59 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , he finished fourth in the 2-by-2-by-400-meter relay in 3: 42.14 minutes and fifth in the mixed relay in 3: 20.65 minutes. He then won the bronze medal at the Student World Games in Naples in 48.99 seconds behind the Brazilian Alison dos Santos and Sokwakhana Zazini from South Africa and also won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 03.35 minutes the teams from Mexico and South Africa. He then reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated with 50.18 s. At the end of October he won the bronze medal behind the Iranian Mahdi Pirjahan and Abdelmalik Lahoulou from Algeria at the World Military Games in 49.69 s . In addition, he won the silver medal with the relay in 3: 06.36 minutes behind Bahrain.

Dobek is also very successful at national level and won the Polish 400-meter hurdles championships every year between 2014 and 2019.
