Abdelmalik Lahoulou (born May 7, 1992 in Jijel ) is an Algerian athlete who has specialized in the 400-meter hurdles . Among other things, he is a two-time winner of the African Games .

Athletic career

Abdelmalik Lahoulou has been taking part in international competitions since 2009, when he qualified for the U18 World Championships in Bressanone. He failed over 400 m hurdles in 55.30 s in the run-up, with the 4 x 400 meter relay he was disqualified in the semifinals. A year later he started in the older age group, which runs over the same hurdles as the adults, at the U20 World Championships in Moncton, Canada. There he ran about two seconds faster than the year before and reached the semifinals, in which he was eliminated in sixth place in his run. In 2011 he won his first gold medal at international championships with his victory at the U20 African Championships in the Botswana capital Gaborone in 51.69 seconds.

In 2013 he finished seventh in the individual over the 400 m hurdles at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey, and fourth in the long relay. It was his first competitions at international championships in the adult field. A year later he was the first Algerian champion in the 400 m hurdles. In August he finished fourth at the African Championships in Marrakech in 51.67 s. In July 2015 he took part in the Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea. There he won the silver medal in 48.99 s. At the World Championships in Beijing, he made it to the semifinals. In September he also took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville. He won the 400 m hurdles in a new best time of 48.67 seconds, and he also won bronze in the relay.

In 2016 Lahoulou competed in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He survived the preliminary run and then failed to make it into the final as fourth in his semi-final run. A year later, at the World Championships in London, he again just missed the finals in 49.33 s. When he took part in the Summer Universiade for the second time , he won the bronze medal. In 2018 Lahoulou competed at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain. In the individual he just missed a medal in fourth, with the 4 x 400 meter relay he won the bronze medal. At the African Championships in Asaba, he won his first gold medal at continental championships in 48.47 s.

In August 2019 Lahoulou took after 2015, again at the Africa Games , this time in Rabat, in part. In 49.08 s he won the gold medal there. At the end of September he also took part in the World Championships in Doha. In the semifinals he ran a new best time in 48.39 s, which also meant a national record. In the final he could not confirm the time and came in last.

Lahoulou studies at the National School of Sports Science in Algiers .
