Henry Amike

Henry Amike (born October 4, 1961 ) is a former Nigerian athlete who specialized in the 400-meter hurdles .

Career

Amike finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. A week later, at the African Athletics Championships in Rabat , he won the silver medal over the same distance behind the Senegalese Amadou Dia Ba , who was fifth in Los Angeles. Even at the African Athletics Championships in Cairo in 1985 , he only had to admit defeat to Dia Ba.

At the Pan-African Games in Nairobi in 1987 , Amike won the bronze medal and a little later reached sixth place at the World Athletics Championships in Rome . In 1988 he was once again second behind the victorious Amadou Dia Ba at the African Athletics Championships in Annaba . At the Olympic Games in Seoul , he was a member of the Nigerian 4-by-400-meter relay , which finished seventh there.

At the 1989 African Athletics Championships in Lagos, Amike finally won the title in the 400-meter hurdles in front of a home crowd.
