Llewellyn Herbert
Llewellyn Herbert (born July 21, 1977 in Bethal , Mpumalanga ) is a South African hurdler whose specialty is the 400 meter course .
As a 19-year-old he took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, but failed in the run-up. Shortly afterwards he was runner-up in the junior world championship, and the following year he won the silver medal at the World Championships in Athens and the gold medal at the Universiade .
At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he won the bronze medal behind Angelo Taylor (USA) and Hadi Soua'an Al-Somaily (KSA).
In 2002 and 2004 he became African champion, at the 2003 World Championships in Paris he was eighth because of a fall in the last hurdle, while he was in medal position.
Herbert had the habit of standing with his back to the running direction and his starting block when introducing the athletes immediately before the start.
