Wang Chunyu ( Chinese  王 春雨 , Pinyin Wáng Chūnyǔ , born January 17, 1995 in Suzhou ) is a Chinese middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Athletic career

Wang Chunyu gained her first international experience in 2011 at the World Youth Championships in Lille , where she won the silver medal in 2: 03.23 minutes behind the American Ajeé Wilson . Two years later she won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Pune and also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where she was eliminated in the first round. In 2016 she managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro ; she reached the semifinals there with a new record under the 2-minute mark . In 2018 she won the gold medal over 800 meters in 2: 09.30 minutes at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran . At the end of August she took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the first time and won there in 2: 01.80 minutes ahead of the Kazakhstani Margarita Mukaschewa and Manal el-Bahraoui from Bahrain.

In 2019 she won the silver medal behind the Indian Marimuthu Gomathy at the Asian Championships in Doha in 2: 02.96 minutes . Shortly thereafter, she took part in the World Relays in Yokohama , where she retired with the mixed 4 x 400 meter relay with 3: 21.66 minutes in advance. Over 800 meters she qualified for the World Championships in Doha, where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 2: 02.84 minutes . Then she retired at the Military World Games in Wuhan with 2: 14.44 minutes in advance.
