Nimali Waliwarsha Konda Liyanarachchi Arachchige (born September 19, 1989 in Sooriyawewa ) is a Sri Lankan middle -distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter distance .

Athletic career

For the first time, Nimali Liyanarachchi appeared at the Asian Championships in Pune, India, and took fourth place over 800 meters. Two years later she won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Wuhan . In 2016 she won the silver medal behind the Bahraini Marta Hirpato Yota at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha with a new national record . In 2017 she won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in front of her compatriot Gayanthika Abeyrathne and thus also received a bye for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2018 she took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where she won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run in 2: 10.83 minutes.

In 2019, she finished seventh at the Asian Championships in Doha in 2: 08.69 min and was fourth in the Sri Lankan 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 35.06 min.

So far she has been seven times Sri Lankan champion over 400, 800 and 5000 meters, as well as in the 400-meter hurdles and obstacle courses.
