Gayanthika Artigala Thushari Abeyratne (born December 23, 1986 in Sooriyawewa ) is a Sri Lankan middle-distance runner.

Athletic career

For the first time, Gayanthika Abeyrathne appeared internationally at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon . There she came in eighth place over 800 meters. In 2015 she was sixth at the Asian Championships in Wuhan and at the Military World Games in Mungyeong , South Korea , she was eliminated over 1500 meters in the run. In 2016 she won the silver medals in the 800 and 1500 meters at the South Asian Games in Guwahati . In 2017 she set a new Sri Lankan record and won the silver medal at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar behind her compatriot Nimali Liyanarachchi . Before that she finished 66th at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala . In early September she won the gold medal over 800 meters at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat .

In 2018, she took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where she finished fourth over 800 meters in 2: 11.20 minutes and one day later she won the gold medal over 1500 meters in 4: 26.83 minutes. At the beginning of April she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and was eliminated in the first round. At the end of August she again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where she finished sixth over 800 meters in 2: 05.50 minutes. The following year she was fourth in the 800-meter run at the Asian Championships in Doha in 2: 05.74 minutes and finished eleventh over 1500 meters in 4: 24.42 minutes. In mid-October she reached eighth place over 800 meters at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 2: 11.08 min and was 13th over 1500 meters in 4: 40.06 min. In addition, she reached the Sri Lankan 4 x 400 meters -Season in 3: 43.33 min to fifth place. In December she won the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 3: 41.10 min with the relay and won the silver medal over 800 meters in 2: 08.52 min behind her compatriot Dilshi Kumarasinghe and classified herself over 1500 meters in 4: 36.34 min in fourth place.

In 2013 and 2017 Abeyrathne became Sri Lankan champion in the 1500 meter run and in 2014 and 2017 over 800 meters.
