Megan Tapper (born March 18, 1994 in Kingston as Megan Simmonds ) is a Jamaican hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter hurdles .

Athletic career

Megan Tapper gained her first international experience at the 2010 CARIFTA Games in George Town , where she was victorious in 13.64 s. She then won in 14.32 s at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in Santo Domingo and was fourth in the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 13.62 s. At the CARIFTA Games 2011 in Montego Bay , she did not finish in the final and took sixth place in the World Youth Championships near Lille in 13.78 seconds. In 2013 she won the CARIFTA Games in Nassau for the last time in 13.89 seconds. In 2014 she won the silver medal in the hurdles in 13.06 seconds at the U23 NACAC championships in Kamloops and the bronze medal with the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay in 45.90 seconds.

In 2016 she qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 12.95 s . In 2017 she took part in the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 12.93 s . The following year, she first took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she was seventh in 13.18 s. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she won the bronze medal in 13.01 s.

In 2016, Tapper became the Jamaican champion in the 100 meter hurdles.
