Phillip Kipyeko (born January 10, 1995 ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner who specializes in the 5000 meter distance .

Athletic career

Phillip Kipyeko gained his first international experience at the World Cross Country Championships 2011 in Punta Umbría , where he finished 24th in the junior ranking and won the bronze medal in the team ranking. He then finished seventh in the 3000 meter final at the World Youth Championships in Lille . At the Commonwealth Youth Games, he won the bronze medal over the same distance two months later. At the Junior African Championships 2011 in Gaborone he won the bronze medals over 5000 and 10,000 meters. In 2012 he finished sixth in the 5000 meter run at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in 13: 45.52 minutes.

In 2013 he took part in the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated over 5000 meters in the preliminary run. In 2014 he finished sixth again at the Junior World Championships in Eugene . In 2015 he took part in the Cross Country World Championships in Guiyang and reached 25th place in the general class. He qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 13: 26.20 minutes in the lead . In 2016 he took part in the African Championships in Durban , where he finished ninth. He also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the first time and was eliminated there with 13: 24.66 minutes in the first round . At the 2017 World Cross Country Championships in Kampala , he finished 31st and won the bronze medal with the team.

In 2018 he finished sixth at the African Cross Country Championships in Ech Cheliff . At the Commonwealth Games 2018 in the Australian Gold Coast , he competed over 5000 meters and also finished sixth in 13: 59.59 minutes.
