Hagos Gebrhiwet 2015 in Doha

Hagos Gebrhiwet (born May 11, 1994 in Ts'a'ida Imba ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner from Tigray and two-time Olympic athlete (2012 and 2016).

Career

In 2011 he won the San Silvestre Vallecana over 10 km. He covered the course, which was not suitable for the best list because of its gradient, in 27:57 minutes. In 2012 he took part in the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix and won the 5000 meter run with a time of 13: 11.00 min. In July Gebrhiwet set a junior world record when he also managed the Olympic qualification in the Diamond League Meeting in Paris over 5000 m in 12: 47.53 min as second overall. At the Summer Olympics in London he was eleventh over 5000 meters.

In 2013 Gebrhiwet won the junior race over 8 km at the World Cross Country Championships in Bdygoszcz . At the World Championships in Moscow , he won the silver medal in the 5000 meter run behind the British Mo Farah . The following year he was fifth at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot over 3000 meters.

At the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, Gebrhiwet took fourth place and thus contributed to Ethiopia's victory in the team championship. On August 29, 2015, he won the bronze medal in the 5000-meter run at the World Championships in Beijing .

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Gebrhiwet won the bronze medal in the 5000 meter run behind the Brit Mo Farah and the American Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo .

In August 2018, he ran the 5000 m in Brussels in 12: 45.82 minutes, which put him in 5th place on the all-time world best list .

In 2019 Gebrhiwet won in Hengelo at the Ethiopian eliminations for the World Championships in Doha over 10,000 m with a time of 26: 48.95 min. At the World Championships himself he finished 9th with 27: 11.37 minutes.
