Hengelo ( Bronckhorst , Gelderland province , in the Netherlands . It has 8,115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The village is dominated by agriculture and has some industry. It serves as a shopping center for the surrounding villages.

A synagogue community existed in Hengelo until the Holocaust in the Netherlands . At the site of the former synagogue in Synagogestraat in the center of the village, a plaque with a Star of David and a shofar commemorates it.
