Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink (born June 1, 1950 in Hengelo , Bronckhorst ) is a Dutch politician ( VVD ). From 1994 to 1998 she was Minister for Transport and Waterways, then Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands for four years. From 2003 to September 2015 she was Mayor of Almere and European Chairwoman of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions .

The Mennonite daughter of a miller began her political career in 1973 when she became a member of the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie . In 1982 she was elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament . In 1994, then Prime Minister Wim Kok appointed her to his cabinet as Minister of Transport and Waterways. When the cabinet was reorganized after the parliamentary elections in 1998, Jorritsma became Minister for Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

Jorritsma was awarded the Jacoba van Beieren Prize on October 7, 1997 for her courageous approach to improving the dyke systems .

In August 2003 she became mayor of Almere, after previously holding the provisional mayor's office in Delfzijl .

At the beginning of 2004 she succeeded J. Verhaegen as chairman of the supervisory board of Interpay , a joint venture of the Dutch banks for the processing of electronic payments. She is the first chairman of the supervisory board of this company who does not come from the banking world.
