Maya Rehberg , incorrectly sometimes also Maja , (born  April 28, 1994 in Bad Segeberg , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German athlete who specializes in obstacle running, but also runs medium and long distance as well as cross .

career path

Maya Rehberg made 2013 their high school with a grade point average of 1.4 at the Municipal Gymnasium (STG) in Bad Segeberg . Thanks to a one-year scholarship , she began studying mathematics at Iona College in New Rochelle ( New York State ) in the summer . Upon her return she started mid October 2014 at the University of Kiel , a study of the physics of the Earth system.

Athletic career

Rehberg has been a member of the sports club since she was four. Since she was five years old she has been doing athletics and has also played handball , soccer and tennis .

As an A-student (W15), Rehberg improved the indoor state record of the female B-youth (U18) over 3000 meters to 10: 00.85 minutes at the athletics Christmas sports festival in Neubrandenburg in 2009 as an A-student (W15) .

In 2010 and 2011 Rehberg was both German U18 cross-country champion and German U18 champion over 3000 meters.

The German U20 championship titles over 3000 meters and the 2000 meter obstacle course followed in 2012 and 2013 .

Internationally, Rehberg had won four medals at the U20 cross-country championships and in 2013 took 3rd place at the U20 European championships in Rieti in the 3000 meter obstacle course.

During her studies abroad from 2013 to 2014, she competed in several competitions with the college team. In between, she won her fifth medal at a European Cross Country Championship with the U20 team with a 3rd place at the European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade in December 2013. At the end of her stay, Rehberg took 9th place in the final of the 3000-meter obstacle course at the NCAA student championships in Eugene (Oregon) in June 2014 , undercutting her ten-minute mark with 9: 55.73 min and with this Time also improved the Schleswig-Holstein state record for women she held. Rehberg had previously set a new personal indoor record over 3000 meters in 9: 24.51 min at the regional US student championships in Boston ( Massachusetts ).

In 2014, Rehberg started in the U23 age group and achieved 5th place in the 3000 meter obstacle course at the German championships and 4th place in the European cross-country championships with the team.

In 2015 she was German U23 cross-country champion and German cross-country runner-up for women . Rehberg was German runner -up in the 3000 meter obstacle course and came in 6th at the U23 European Athletics Championships .

In 2016 Rehberg set two personal bests, over 2000 and 3000 meters obstacle. She won the German cross-country championship title for women and U23. Rehberg became German runner-up over 3000 meters and reached the final at the European Championships in Amsterdam . Eventually she was nominated for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

Rehberg belongs to the B-team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

Maya Rehberg has started for TSV Kronshagen / Kieler TB since January 1st, 2015 and was previously at SC Rönnau 74 for a good 16 years .

Honors

In 2010, the Segeberg Regional Athletics Association named Rehberg Sportswoman of the Year. In 2012 and 2013 she was named the best young runner by the “German Road Racers” (GRR) association.
